What's free, what's paid, and exactly what the subscription unlocks.
Everything except multi-device sync is free
The vault, browser autofill (Safari and Chrome), the AutoFill Credential Provider on iOS/macOS, password health checks, breach checks, TOTP codes, passkey metadata storage, and encrypted backups all work fully offline and cost nothing, with no feature limits and no time limit.
What the subscription is
A yearly subscription ($2.99/y) that unlocks multi-device synchronization: creating a new sync group, and inviting further devices into one you already created. It does not gate joining a group someone else created — that’s free on every platform.
Billing runs through each platform’s own store:
- macOS / iOS: Apple’s In-App Purchase, billed to your Apple ID, managed the normal way through your App Store subscription settings.
- Android (once available): Google Play Billing, billed the same way through your Google account.
- Windows / Linux: no purchase option exists on these platforms today. A Windows-only user can still join a sync group created on macOS, iOS, or (once available) Android — see Windows App and the note on one-shot invites in Synchronization.
Restoring a purchase
If you reinstall the app or set up a new Apple device, the subscription page includes a “Restore purchase” option that re-checks your existing subscription with the store — no separate account or login is needed, since entitlement is tied to your Apple ID / Google account directly, not to a MyPwdTool account (there is no such thing as a MyPwdTool account).
Why it’s structured this way
The subscription exists to cover the ongoing cost of running the relay server — it is deliberately priced low, and deliberately does not gate anything except the specific feature that has an ongoing hosting cost attached to it. Every other feature stays free, permanently, on every platform.
